Good morning! But what if it’s not?
What if you woke up on the wrong side of the bed or in a body that betrays you?
You don’t have to let the way your day starts tank your whole day can change course.
But how, you might ask?
I can answer that from 40 years of experience waking up feeling like a rusty bag of nails.
Having narcolepsy my whole life makes my mornings very challenging.
And you wouldn’t know that from watching my content, but this (smile) doesn’t happen on accident.
I have to love off what I woke up with first every single day for like 40 years.
Why? Because if I let the mood I woke up in be the one that’s in charge, I’m going to have a much harder day.
“There, there, dear. I know you feel like a roadkill, but your dopamine will come online soon.” Self-soothing is a skill.
That’s what it looks like to lead yourself with love.
Imagine yourself having something to start your day with a step in the right direction and getting help changing your direction to something less stabby.
Or, just enjoying the humor and wisdom that I put out here to keep you on your path.

Tip for helping break the spell of anxiety – Daily Dose 2
If you get stuck in hard feels – look away, break the spell.
Anxiety, anger, sadness.
I think the best example off this is when you’re sobbing over something and your bestie cracks a joke and you laugh through your tears.
Pattern interrupting – it’s one time ADHD is kinda helpful…
Sitting in your feels is a good healthy thing to do, but you’re not supposed to pack a bag and move in.
When things get heavy, it’s ok to take a break – you’re not ignoring it – you’re just holding a boundary with yourself about how long you’ll sit in it.
Look at something that makes you smile, sing a song, go for a walk – change your perspective.
Why? Because you gotta live in your body. Enjoy it!
Do you keep Spinning your wheels like it’s part of your fitness routine?
Having the same conversation 15 times in your own head?
Repeating what you want to say to someone over and over in your head because you can’t let the words out of your mouth? Shhhh.
I call this looping and in addition to triggering anxiety, it can trigger a cortisol release, which means stress.
Spinning your wheels just exhausts you and you get nowhere.
When it happens, you can rescue yourself. Best thing that helps me with this is singing – or having an unrelated conversation with someone – essentially ‘drowing out’ the loop. Sometimes that’s enough to snap me out of it, sometimes i just need to nap. Naps are the ultimate reset and very good for reducing stress.
I heard a great quote – start your day on purpose.
Waking up “on the wrong side of the bed” can ruin your whole day – if you let it.
Whether you know your ‘reason for existing’ or not, what is the intention you go into each day with?
Do you let life carry you along like a bag in the wind? Or are you doing everything you can to ‘intend’ to have a good day?
It starts from the moment you open your eyes.
Imagine waking up exhausted and feeling like you got hit by a truck every morning, having tears for breakfast every day… for years.
That was me a decade ago. So, I sat with it. I spent time being kind to myself.
Comfy blankets and hot coffee, funny memes and messaging with friends.
As I woke up more and the pain eased a bit – I would come back to myself.
Skipping that = feeling last on my own list and that alone can slow you down.
Start your day on purpose.
Intend to have a good day and back it up with the things you choose to think, say and do.
Being sleepy affects the executive functions of the brain, which includes emotional regulation.
What does that mean?
It means when I’m sleepy my emotions can be all over the place.
And it affects your inhibitions so if I’m not mindful – I can say things that cut like a knife…
For most of my life, I justified my anger and I paid for that in the quality of my relationships – especially the one with myself.
Two things that really help me with this
– in the beginning when i was just starting, I would tell myself to have a nice steamy mug of STFU. it made me laugh and would help ‘break the spell’ while also reminding me not to talk to anyone until my dopamine came online.
The second is to refocus from the tantrum my brain is having and state aloud 3 things that i see that i love. I love coffee. I love these socks. I love that plant.
Seems silly and simple but when you’re stuck in the suck it can help refocus that into love and it’s not easy to love people when we’re jacked up lol so express the love for things and you still fill yourself with love.
